About the Conference

This will be the first joint meeting of the American Mathematical Society (USA) and the Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática (Brazil). Its goal is to strenghten the ties between the mathematical communities of the two countries and to provide an opportunity for interactions and scientific exchange. The conference schedule includes plenary talks of general interest and focused special sessions featuring current research in specific areas. There will also be ample time for informal discussions.

Location and Dates

The conference will take place at IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between June 4th and June 7th, 2008. IMPA is well known for its many contributions to the mathematical sciences and has been for many years a focal point of mathematical life in Latin America. The institute’s location, in the outskirts of the Tijuca Forest, combines quiet surroundings with scenic views of the Forest and the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.
